Home Business - Update Your Content Often

Each and every home business owner dreams of having a ton of visitors to their website. Unfortunately, this can be a daunting task with the amount of competition out there. A great deal of home business owners are under the impression that they must invest thousands of dollars with Pay Per Click (PPC) marketing just to get the attention of the search engines. This is simply not true.

While you may not be familiar with this notion, there are other methods of getting traffic to your website which will not cost you a dime. For purposes of this article, we are going to focus on the method of frequently updating your website with valuable, relevant, and unique content. Doing so will attract search engine traffic.

Something that a lot of webmasters are misinformed about, is the notion that “meta tags” are the primary determinant in receiving search engine traffic. This is a misnomer. Yes, it is true that every webmaster should use meta tags. However, what garners the attention of the search engines, is the content of your website. The more unique content which your website has on a particular topic, the more likely you will receive search engine traffic.

With that being said, make sure that the content which you place on your website is relevant to the keywords which you are trying to rank for. To do this, you should always place the relevant keyword in the first sentence and last paragraph of your content. I have also been told to place the keyword at the end of the first paragraph, as well as within the middle of the content. However, a word of caution. Don’t overdo it with the keywords. This is known as “keyword stuffing” and will get your website penalized by the search engines.

I can hear something saying that there is no way that they can change the content on their home page daily. The home page is where the crucial information regarding their home business resides. For all of you, I have good news. Your frequently updated content does not need to be on your home page, just your website. Therefore, a simple blog being added to you website will do the trick.

Nonetheless, the amount of valuable, unique content which you will need to add to your website will depend on the terms that you are attempting to rank for. For example, if you are trying to rank for a term which is very specific to your niche, chances are that you will need to put forth less effort to do so than you would attempting to rank for a broad term with a great deal of competition.

I know what you are thinking. This sounds like a lot of work. Believe me, once you get into the habit of updating your content each day, there is really nothing to it. Generally, people maintain websites in an area of expertise or familiarity. Just write what you know about. It will more than likely take you 20-30 minutes per day. Before long, you will have creating a following which continues to grow.

For those of you who simply do not have 20-30 minutes to spare each day, there is a solution. You will have no problem finding a freelance writing to do the job for you.

Just recognize that once you have people coming to your website or subscribing to your RSS feed for new information on your topic of interest, these people will look at you as a trusted source. People like to buy from those who they trust. Hence, your readers are your future customers.
